Hatches, hatches…there are two hatches. Bungees loop to hooks on the underside of the hatch covers to hold them firmly in place. A Monkey’s Fist knot in turquoise paracord forms the handle.
- Fore hatch glued, sanded and sealed with epoxy
- Hatch cover (formerly part of the deck) sitting on the hatch rim without the gasket
- Hold fast.
- Ain’t no party like a big clamp party and a small clamp party
- That’s not so bad.
- Getting ready to glue in the rear doublers
- There are large holes in my boat where there were none before. Look at that ragged cut
- Two doubling rims glued in place, ready for the hatch rim
- Another gratuitous group clamp pic
- Gluing the doubling rims in place to ensure the hatch cover will sit flush once the gasket is applied
- A third done. The walnut cuts very slow by hand
- Drilled some 1/16″ starter holes to form a slot for the sawblade. Saw is a japanese bonsai trim saw.
- Cutting out the fore hatch. Nothing like sawing into a full month’s work and only getting one chance to do it right.
